Course Overview

The Commodity Price Risk & Hedging Strategies Training Course equips treasury, risk, finance, procurement, and trading professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to identify, measure, and manage exposure to commodity price volatility using sound hedging strategies and governance. Organizations in oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, power and utilities, mining and metals, aviation, shipping, manufacturing, food and agriculture, and government entities that depend on commodity revenues or purchases are directly affected by movements in oil, gas, refined products, metals, power, and agricultural prices. These movements can significantly affect revenues, costs, margins, cash flows, budgets, and investment plans. The course covers the full commodity risk management cycle. Participants learn how to identify and quantify commodity exposures, understand price benchmarks and basis risk, and use spot, forward, futures, swap, and option markets. The program then addresses hedging instruments and strategies, including hedge ratios, layered and rolling hedges, collars, average price structures, and natural hedges; risk measurement using sensitivity analysis, value at risk, cash flow at risk, and stress testing; hedge policies, risk limits, and governance; counterparty, margin, and liquidity risks; the fundamentals of hedge accounting; and reporting and evaluating hedging performance. The course is delivered through practical case studies, market analysis, and Excel-based exposure measurement and hedging exercises. Participants leave with a commodity exposure mapping template, a hedging strategy selection guide, a hedge effectiveness and payoff model, a hedging policy outline, and a commodity risk dashboard.
