Course Overview

The Collections & Debt Recovery Management Training Course equips collections managers, credit and recovery professionals, credit controllers, and legal recovery staff with the strategies, skills, and tools needed to reduce delinquency, accelerate cash recovery, and minimize credit losses while treating customers fairly and complying with regulatory and conduct requirements. Banks, finance companies, telecommunications and utility providers, government revenue and service entities, and corporates selling on credit all face growing pressure to manage overdue receivables effectively. Inefficient collections processes, poor segmentation, weak negotiation skills, unmanaged collection agencies, and inconsistent legal recovery lead to rising write-offs, higher provisions, damaged customer relationships, and reputational and regulatory risk. The course covers the full collections and recovery life cycle. Participants learn the collections strategy framework from pre-delinquency through early, mid, and late-stage collections to recovery and write-off, risk-based segmentation using behavioral scores and collections analytics, and contact strategies across calls, messaging, digital self-service channels, and field visits. The program then addresses collector communication and negotiation skills, handling objections and difficult conversations, securing and monitoring promises to pay, payment arrangements, restructuring, rescheduling, and settlements, and supporting customers in financial difficulty. Participants also examine legal recovery processes and collateral realization, collection agency selection, incentives, and oversight, commercial and corporate receivables collection and dispute management, Islamic finance considerations in collections, regulatory, consumer protection, data privacy, and conduct requirements, the link between collections performance and expected credit loss provisioning, collections performance measurement, technology and automation, and collections governance. The course is delivered through collections strategy design workshops, segmentation and performance analysis exercises, negotiation and call role plays, agency management and legal recovery case studies, and improvement planning. Participants leave with a collections strategy and segmentation framework, a contact and treatment strategy matrix, a negotiation and call guide, a collection agency performance scorecard, and a collections KPI dashboard design.
