Course Overview

The Certified Cost Professional (CCP) Exam Preparation Training Course equips cost engineers, estimators, cost controllers, planners, and project professionals with a structured review of the cost engineering body of knowledge and the exam practice needed to prepare with confidence for the Certified Cost Professional certification offered by AACE International, while strengthening their ability to manage project and asset costs effectively. In oil and gas, petrochemicals, power, utilities, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, and government capital programs, cost professionals are responsible for reliable estimates, realistic budgets, effective cost control, sound economic evaluations, and credible forecasts. The CCP credential is widely recognized as evidence of comprehensive knowledge across cost estimating, cost control, planning and scheduling, economic analysis, and project management. The course reviews the cost engineering body of knowledge in an integrated way, drawing on AACE's Total Cost Management framework and widely used cost engineering references and recommended practices. Participants review cost engineering fundamentals and the Total Cost Management process, cost estimating methods, estimate classification, contingency and escalation, cost accounting concepts, and cost control, including budgeting, earned value management, forecasting, and change management. The program then covers planning and scheduling, including critical path method, resource loading, and schedule control, economic analysis, including time value of money, net present value, internal rate of return, benefit-cost analysis, depreciation, and life cycle costing, and project management topics, including risk management and quantitative risk analysis, contracts, productivity, value engineering, and an introduction to claims and delay analysis. Participants also review statistics and probability fundamentals, receive guidance on the certification's technical paper requirement, practice calculation-based and scenario questions, and complete practice tests with detailed review. The course is delivered through concise concept reviews, worked calculation examples, spreadsheet exercises, domain-based practice questions, and timed practice tests. Participants leave with a domain-by-domain study guide, a cost engineering formulas reference sheet, a bank of practice questions, a technical paper planning template, a personal study plan, and a practice test performance analysis. Eligibility, exam content, technical paper requirements, and exam format are set by AACE International and should be confirmed through its official sources. CCP is a trademark of AACE International.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the structure and requirements of the CCP certification, including the examination and technical paper, and develop a personal study plan on Day 1.
  • Apply the Total Cost Management framework to project and asset cost management.
  • Apply cost estimating methods, including analogous, parametric, and detailed estimating, and estimate classification principles.
  • Determine contingency and escalation and apply cost accounting concepts relevant to cost engineering.
  • Apply cost control practices, including budgeting, cost breakdown structures, earned value management, forecasting, and change management.
  • Apply planning and scheduling techniques, including critical path method, resource loading and leveling, and schedule control.
  • Apply economic analysis techniques, including time value of money, net present value, internal rate of return, payback, benefit-cost analysis, depreciation, and life cycle costing.
  • Apply risk management and quantitative risk analysis, including probabilistic methods and Monte Carlo concepts.
  • Apply project management concepts related to contracts, productivity, value engineering, and an introduction to claims and delay analysis.
  • Apply statistics and probability fundamentals used in cost engineering.
  • Plan and structure a technical paper that meets certification expectations.
  • Solve calculation-based and scenario questions accurately under timed conditions and prioritize remaining study by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for cost engineers, cost estimators, cost controllers, project control professionals, and planners and schedulers who plan to pursue the CCP certification. It is also relevant for quantity surveyors, project managers, commercial and contract managers, project finance and investment analysts, and PMO professionals who want a comprehensive, structured review of cost engineering. It is particularly valuable for professionals in oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, and industrial companies, power, water, and utility organizations, construction, infrastructure, and engineering, procurement, and construction contractors, project management and cost consultancies, and ministries, government entities, and public investment organizations managing capital programs.

Learning Outcomes
