The Bulk & Breakbulk Terminal Management Training Course equips terminal managers, port authority officials, and supply chain leaders with the management knowledge needed to run terminals handling dry bulk, grain, steel, timber, bagged cargo, and project cargo. It is especially suited to mining and grain ports in Africa, where a terminal often depends on a small number of commodities, a long inland rail or road corridor, and close coordination with mines, traders, and food security agencies. The course addresses the decisions that determine performance in these terminals. Participants examine the balance between arrivals by rail or truck, stockpile capacity, and ship loading or discharge rates; the management of shiploaders, grabs, conveyors, and mobile equipment at an oversight level; berth scheduling and demurrage exposure; cargo quality, moisture, contamination, and loss control; and breakbulk planning for steel, timber, bagged goods, and heavy project lifts. Participants also work with the management systems and international codes that bear on these operations, including the IMSBC Code, the BLU Code, and the International Grain Code, and learn how responsibilities are divided between terminal, shipper, and vessel. Dust and environmental management, community relations, safety management systems, take-or-pay and throughput agreements, and corridor coordination complete the scope. The course addresses management and governance only and does not provide operator or technical competence. The course is delivered through terminal case studies, cargo flow modeling exercises, risk assessment work, contract review, and a final terminal management workshop. Participants leave with a terminal capacity and bottleneck analysis, a stockpile and quality control plan, a demurrage management approach, a dust management plan outline, and a performance improvement plan they can adapt to their own terminals.
