Course Overview

The Asset Integrity Management in Oil & Gas Training Course equips engineers, managers, and integrity professionals with a structured, practical approach to ensuring that oil and gas facilities are designed, operated, inspected, and maintained so that they perform their required functions safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory requirements throughout their life cycle. Many major accidents in the industry have been linked to failures of asset integrity, including corrosion, degraded safety barriers, deferred maintenance, inadequate inspection, and uncontrolled changes. At the same time, ageing facilities, cost pressure, and production targets make it essential to focus integrity resources where the risk is highest. The course covers asset integrity management as an integrated system. Participants learn the principles of design, technical, and operational integrity and their links to process safety management and asset management standards, and how to establish integrity management frameworks, governance, roles, and competence. The program then addresses asset registers and criticality assessment, safety and environmental critical elements and performance standards, integrity strategies for static, rotating, electrical, instrumented, pipeline, and structural assets, damage mechanisms and corrosion management, risk-based inspection, reliability-centered maintenance, and integrity operating windows. Participants also examine barrier management, anomaly and deferral management, management of change, integrity data and systems, key performance indicators and process safety event metrics, audit and assurance, ageing assets and life extension, digital integrity technologies, and risk-based integrity decision making. The course is delivered through major incident case studies, framework design workshops, criticality and barrier assessment exercises, and integrity performance reviews. Participants leave with an asset integrity management framework template, a criticality assessment tool, a safety critical element performance standard template, an anomaly and deferral management procedure outline, and an integrity KPI dashboard design.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the principles of asset integrity management and the consequences of integrity failures, drawing lessons from major incidents, on Day 1.
  • Distinguish between design, technical, and operational integrity and their links to process safety management and asset management standards.
  • Establish asset integrity management frameworks, governance, roles, responsibilities, and competence requirements.
  • Develop asset registers and conduct criticality assessments to prioritize integrity activities.
  • Identify safety and environmental critical elements and develop performance standards for them.
  • Develop integrity strategies for static, rotating, electrical, instrumented, pipeline, and structural assets.
  • Apply damage mechanism assessment, corrosion management, and risk-based inspection to plan inspection activities.
  • Apply reliability-centered maintenance and integrity operating windows to protect equipment integrity.
  • Apply barrier management to monitor the health of safety barriers and communicate barrier status.
  • Manage anomalies, deferrals, and deviations and apply management of change to integrity-related changes.
  • Use integrity data, information systems, key performance indicators, and audits to measure and assure integrity performance.
  • Manage ageing assets and life extension, apply digital integrity technologies, and make risk-based integrity decisions by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for asset integrity engineers and managers, inspection and corrosion engineers, maintenance and reliability engineers, and process safety professionals responsible for the integrity of oil and gas facilities. It is also relevant for operations managers and supervisors, facility and asset managers, HSE professionals, technical authorities, and auditors of integrity and process safety systems. It is particularly valuable for professionals in upstream production facilities onshore and offshore, gas processing and LNG plants, pipelines and terminals, refineries and petrochemical plants, and integrity, inspection, and engineering service providers, as well as regulators overseeing major hazard facilities.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain what asset integrity means and why it is vital for safety and performance.
  • Distinguish design, technical, and operational integrity.
  • Establish clear integrity governance and responsibilities.
  • Prioritize assets based on criticality and risk.
  • Identify safety critical elements and define their required performance.
  • Develop integrity strategies for different types of equipment.
  • Use corrosion management and risk-based inspection effectively.
  • Apply maintenance strategies and operating limits that protect integrity.
  • Monitor and communicate the health of safety barriers.
  • Manage anomalies, deferrals, and changes without eroding safety.
  • Measure integrity performance and assure the effectiveness of the system.
  • Manage ageing assets and support life extension decisions.
