Course Overview

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section VIII, establishes essential requirements for the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of pressure vessels. Its application is fundamental to maintaining pressure equipment integrity and ensuring safe, reliable operation across oil and gas facilities, petrochemical plants, refineries, power generation facilities, and other process industries. This course provides a structured understanding of Section VIII requirements, with emphasis on Division 1 and an introduction to the principal differences between Divisions 1 and 2. Participants will examine pressure vessel design conditions, material selection, allowable stresses, thickness calculations, weld joint efficiency, reinforcement of openings, fabrication requirements, welding qualifications, non-destructive examination, pressure testing, and documentation. The programme also introduces the role of the ASME Certificate of Authorization, Code stamping, and the Manufacturer's Data Report within the applicable certification framework. Through practical calculations, code interpretation exercises, and engineering case studies, participants will develop the ability to identify applicable Code provisions, review pressure vessel design documentation, evaluate fabrication and inspection records, and recognise common compliance gaps. The course supports more consistent engineering decisions, improved quality assurance, effective inspection coordination, and reliable pressure vessel lifecycle management.
