Course Overview

This course provides a practical understanding of anti-money laundering (AML) principles, regulatory obligations, and the controls organizations need to prevent, detect, and report money laundering activities. Participants examine how criminals attempt to conceal the origins of illicit funds through financial transactions, business structures, trade activities, and the misuse of legitimate financial services. The programme covers customer due diligence (CDD), know-your-customer (KYC) procedures, beneficial ownership identification, customer risk assessment, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity detection, and regulatory reporting. Participants also explore enhanced due diligence (EDD), politically exposed persons (PEPs), sanctions screening, recordkeeping, and the risks associated with correspondent banking, cross-border payments, and trade-based money laundering. Through practical case studies and transaction analysis exercises, participants develop the skills to identify suspicious patterns, investigate alerts, document findings, and apply risk-based controls. The course emphasizes the importance of effective governance, employee awareness, timely escalation, and ongoing monitoring in maintaining a robust AML compliance framework.
