Course Overview

The IFRS 18 Presentation & Disclosure in Financial Statements Training Course equips finance leaders, financial reporting professionals, auditors, and regulators with a practical understanding of IFRS 18, which replaces IAS 1 and introduces the most significant changes to the structure of financial statements in many years. IFRS 18 is effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027 and applies retrospectively, which means organizations must restate comparative information and prepare now for its implementation. The standard introduces defined categories and new subtotals in the statement of profit or loss, requires disclosure and reconciliation of management-defined performance measures, and strengthens principles for aggregation and disaggregation, with consequential changes to statements of cash flows and other standards. These changes affect not only financial statements but also charts of accounts, reporting systems, key performance indicators, investor communication, and debt covenants. The course covers IFRS 18 from principles to implementation. Participants learn the objectives and scope of the standard, the roles of the primary financial statements and notes, and the classification of income and expenses into the operating, investing, and financing categories, together with income taxes and discontinued operations, including the classification requirements for entities with specified main business activities such as banks, insurers, and investment entities. The program then addresses the required subtotals of operating profit and profit before financing and income taxes, the presentation of expenses by nature or function and the related disclosures of specified expenses, enhanced aggregation, disaggregation, and labeling requirements, and the identification, disclosure, and reconciliation of management-defined performance measures. Participants also examine consequential amendments to the statement of cash flows and other standards, including interim reporting, transition requirements and comparative restatement, and the implementation implications for data, systems, charts of accounts, controls, key performance indicators, contracts, and stakeholder communication. The course is delivered through worked examples, restatement exercises for statements of profit or loss and cash flows, management-defined performance measure reconciliation workshops, sector-specific case studies, and implementation planning. Participants leave with an IFRS 18 classification decision guide, an income and expense mapping template, a management-defined performance measures disclosure and reconciliation template, a transition and restatement checklist, and an IFRS 18 implementation plan template.
