Course Overview

The Generative AI for Executives: Value Cases, Adoption Roadmaps & Risk Oversight Training Course equips senior leaders with the judgment needed to decide where generative AI should be used in their organizations, how much to invest, and how to oversee the risks it brings. Generative AI tools can draft, summarize, analyze, and answer questions across almost every function, which makes the question for executives less about what the technology can do and more about where it creates value worth the cost, the effort, and the exposure. The course is built around executive decisions rather than tool skills or a general introduction to artificial intelligence. Participants do not learn how to write prompts or use specific applications, and the course does not cover AI agents that act inside business processes, which belong to a separate leadership course. Instead, it concentrates on three tasks that sit with leadership: building and testing value cases, sequencing adoption in a roadmap the organization can absorb, and setting the oversight that keeps use safe, lawful, and accountable. Participants examine how generative AI changes cost, quality, and speed in knowledge work, how to separate quick wins from initiatives that need data, integration, or process change, and how to compare building, buying, and partnering. Oversight receives equal weight: data protection, confidentiality, intellectual property, accuracy and hallucination, bias, vendor dependence, and the policies, approvals, and reporting that boards expect. The course draws on recognized responsible AI and AI risk management frameworks and applies them within the laws and regulations that govern each organization. The course is delivered through executive case studies, value case exercises, portfolio prioritization, risk oversight scenarios, and a final leadership workshop. No technical background is required. Participants leave with a value case template, a prioritized use-case portfolio, an adoption roadmap, an acceptable use policy outline, and a board reporting framework they can adapt to their own organizations.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what generative AI can and cannot do in knowledge work, in terms executives can use for decisions.
  • Identify where generative AI creates value across functions and where it adds cost or risk without return.
  • Build value cases that state benefits, costs, assumptions, and the evidence needed to test them.
  • Prioritize a portfolio of use cases by value, feasibility, data readiness, and risk.
  • Compare build, buy, and partner options and the dependence each one creates on vendors.
  • Sequence adoption in a roadmap that matches the organization's capacity for change.
  • Set the operating model, ownership, and funding approach for generative AI initiatives.
  • Define oversight for data protection, confidentiality, intellectual property, and output accuracy.
  • Establish an acceptable use policy and the approvals required for higher-risk uses.
  • Assess the impact of generative AI on roles, skills, and the way work is organized.
  • Measure the results of adoption with indicators that show value, quality, and risk.
  • Report generative AI value and risk to executive committees and boards.
  • Prepare an executive action plan that links generative AI adoption to strategy and governance.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for chief executives, deputy chief executives, general managers, board members, and executive committee members who must decide how far and how fast their organizations adopt generative AI. It is equally relevant for strategy, transformation, and innovation directors, chief information, digital, and data officers who brief leadership, and heads of risk, compliance, legal, and internal audit who oversee new technology. Finance and human resources leaders who fund initiatives or plan workforce change will also benefit. Professionals in government entities, banks and financial institutions, energy and utilities, telecommunications, healthcare, education, and large private groups will find the course directly applicable. No programming or data science background is required. It is particularly valuable for leadership teams whose staff already use generative AI tools informally and who now need a deliberate approach to value, funding, and oversight.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the strengths and limits of generative AI in terms that support executive decisions.
  • Identify functions and tasks where generative AI is likely to create value in their organizations.
  • Build a value case with benefits, costs, assumptions, and the evidence needed to test them.
  • Prioritize a portfolio of generative AI use cases by value, feasibility, and risk.
  • Choose between building, buying, and partnering with awareness of vendor dependence.
  • Draft an adoption roadmap with waves, stage gates, and funding decisions.
  • Select an operating model and assign clear ownership for generative AI initiatives.
  • Define oversight for data protection, confidentiality, intellectual property, and accuracy.
  • Outline an acceptable use policy and approval routes for higher-risk uses.
  • Plan for workforce impact and change management as adoption grows.
  • Report generative AI value and risk to executive committees and boards.
  • Prepare an executive action plan that links adoption to strategy and governance.

Course Outline

Course Outline:

Day 1

Generative AI through an Executive Lens

  • What generative AI does well, where it fails, and why outputs need review
  • How generative AI changes cost, quality, and speed in knowledge work
  • Separating real value from enthusiasm and vendor claims
  • Where generative AI fits beside analytics, automation, and AI agents
  • Questions executives should ask before approving an initiative
  • Practical application: participants map knowledge work in their organizations where generative AI could add value
Day 2

Building and Testing Value Cases

  • Value case structure: problem, benefit, cost, assumptions, and evidence
  • Quick wins compared with initiatives that need data, integration, or process change
  • Build, buy, or partner decisions and the dependence each creates
  • Total cost of ownership, usage costs, and hidden change costs
  • Prioritizing a use-case portfolio by value, feasibility, and risk
  • Practical application: participants build and challenge a value case for a priority use case
Day 3

Adoption Roadmaps and Operating Models

  • Sequencing adoption in waves the organization can absorb
  • Operating models: central, federated, and hybrid ownership
  • Funding approaches, stage gates, and decisions to scale or stop
  • Skills, roles, and workforce impact across functions
  • Change management and communication with staff
  • Practical application: participants draft an adoption roadmap with stage gates
Day 4

Risk Oversight and Policy

  • Data protection, confidentiality, and intellectual property
  • Accuracy, hallucination, bias, and the need for human review
  • Vendor dependence, contract terms, and data handling by providers
  • Acceptable use policies and approvals for higher-risk uses
  • Applying responsible AI and AI risk management frameworks at executive level
  • Practical application: participants work through risk oversight scenarios and decide on controls
Day 5

Measurement, Board Reporting, and Action Plan

  • Indicators for value, quality, adoption, and risk
  • Reviewing results and deciding to scale, adjust, or stop
  • Reporting generative AI value and risk to executive committees and boards
  • Roles of the board, executive management, and assurance functions
  • Keeping the roadmap current as the technology and the organization change
  • Final workshop: participants develop an executive action plan for generative AI adoption
