This course develops the practical skills required to identify, analyse, and prevent financial statement fraud. Participants examine common financial reporting manipulation schemes, including revenue overstatement, expense understatement, asset misstatement, liability concealment, inappropriate accounting estimates, and deliberate misapplication of accounting standards. The programme focuses on recognizing warning signs and understanding how financial statement fraud can distort organizational performance and decision-making. Participants learn to analyse financial statements, accounting records, journal entries, transaction patterns, and supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies and suspicious reporting practices. The course explores analytical procedures, financial ratios, trend analysis, revenue recognition testing, accrual assessment, and the use of data analytics to detect unusual movements and potential manipulation. It also examines the roles of internal controls, corporate governance, audit committees, and management oversight in reducing fraud exposure. Through practical case studies and investigative exercises, participants develop structured approaches to fraud risk assessment, evidence gathering, root-cause analysis, and preventive control design. Emphasis is placed on professional scepticism, reliable documentation, early detection, and the implementation of sustainable controls that strengthen financial reporting integrity and organizational accountability.
